The Paulinus Singers warmly invite you to a special a cappella concert celebrating the 250th anniversary of America. This thoughtfully curated programme explores a musical journey from the Old World to the New, bringing together masterpieces that span centuries of the choral tradition.
Highlights include the timeless beauty of Palestrina’s Missa Brevis, Britten’s radiant A Hymn to the Virgin, and Ola Gjeilo’s evocative Ubi Caritas. These works are complemented by treasured American compositions, including Copland’s Simple Gifts and Barber’s Heaven-Haven, reflecting the distinctive voice and spirit of American music.
Join us for an evening of inspiring choral singing as we celebrate a rich shared heritage through music of beauty, reflection, and joy. We look forward to welcoming you.
about us
- Paulinus Singers are a chamber choir based in Ripon, North Yorkshire, rehearsing at St John’s Church, Sharow.
- The choir presents three or four concerts each year, often raising money for churches or charities.
- We learn the music in advance and come together for five rehearsals before each concert.
- The repertoire is very wide, ranging from the sixteenth century to the present day.
Thinking of joining us?
The members of the choir lead busy lives so we do not rehearse regularly each week. We learn the music in advance, and then come together for five rehearsals before each concert. Rehearsals are usually held on Tuesdays at St John’s Church, Sharow, near Ripon.
We have a friendly conductor, Shaun Turnbull, and we enjoy working together. The choir welcomes applications from singers of all voices, but we have to maintain balance between the parts and sometimes there is a waiting list. If you are a competent sight-singer, able to prepare music in advance and free on Tuesday evenings, please contact us.
